About Me

Superhero Origin Story

Indiana John

During the dotcom era, I created an Indiana Jones fansite to fulfil my dream of dressing up like Indiana Jones 1. As a result, my interest in website design flourished and I began working in the field.

In 2003, I went back to school to finish a degree and further hone my skills as a designer. I studied Graphic Design (they didn't have a web program) and worked on campus at George Mason University as a designer.

Upon graduation, I re-entered the field as a UI/UX Designer. Over the last decade I have spent time as a designer and team lead, helping teams bring value to users. I have solved complex problems for large enterprises and start ups alike. With a wide range of skills, I can take a design from concept through production with experience in user research, interaction design, prototyping, front end design and visual design.

Interests

Volunteering

My life is Christ-centered and I spend a significant amount attending church and participating in various volunteer ministries. Below are pictures of a non-profit summer basketball camp community outreach I help with each year.

Outdoors

Algonquin Peak Summit

I went on frequent camping trips as a kid and learned a lot of outdoor skills. As a father, I introduced my family to this when my kids were small, and it dovetailed into hiking and climbing. I now pursue those interests as my primary form of exercise.

I climb at the gym weekly and routinely get out to local climbing crags like Great Falls as time allows. I also typically make a few large hikes per year. I have hiked many of the highest peaks on the East Coast. I am an aspiring 46er, frequenting the Adirondack high peaks for several years now. Another Northeastern highlight for me was the Presidential Traverse, which I completed in a single day in 2023 with some friends.

Drumming

I bought my first drumset in 1996 and shortly thereafter started taking lessons. I play both acoustic and electronic. I also play the Djembe on occasion. Playing music is a great outlet for creativity and it's an activity that I enjoy weekly, playing at church. There's nothing quite like locking into a tune with other musicians.
