Over the course of a year, I helped lead my team to creation and expansion of our design system. I played a key role in bringing strategy, creative direction, and a constant reinforcement in day-to-day usage guidelines.

When I joined the company, there were some good pieces of design, but they were very fragmented and not systematized. Under my leadership, we created a strategy that galvanized the team. The centerpiece was the component library, which provided a much needed tool for day-to-day continuity. This was created as a dual system approach, one library governed a macro global components library, while the other a micro level. This micro view was the combination of the macro along with nuances specific to a given feature.
Some of the latter pieces in the design system included the style guide and content style guide. These were focused as broader product shared references to both internal and external teams.
Through the usage of the the component library, we immediately reduced errors in creation of screen designs. This tranlated to immediate effectiveness is handoff accuracy, and the assistance to the development team in clarifying existing discrepancies in the UI.
The style guides met contractual objectives for external customers. Additionally they served as references for the QA team to utilize in their further refinement of the application.
